NYC School System is Setting the Trend   1 comment

On Septembebr 2, Bronx Borough President Ruben Diaz Jr. encouraged the Department of Education to expand testing for PCBs in every school building constructed between 1950-1978 in the NYC district. This is the first time in history a city has teamed up with the Environmental Protection Agency to screen for PCBs on this level.

A handful of NYC public schools have been tested, and the results have been troubling. At least four schools tested thus far have been found to have dangerously and unacceptably high concentrations of PCBs. Although cost is an issue, community leaders don’t want to wait and are pushing for immediate sampling. Read more about this story here.
