PCBs in classrooms   Leave a comment

A few days ago the latest inspection of New York schools revealed PCB levels to be at an all time high. In one public school in Brooklyn, 25 out of 31 samples contained higher PCB concentrations than allowed by current federal regulations. It is well established that PCB exposure is correlated to various forms of cancer, lower I.Q., and a plethora of other health problems. In addition to the obvious ill effects this will have on the children, city officials estimate a $708 million cost to replace all lighting fixtures containing PCBs. I’d urge my readers, especially those who are parents themselves, to contact their local schools and demand to have their classrooms tested for PCB concentration levels.
