Breast implants and non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma   Leave a comment

Recently reports of studies that have shown a link between breast implants and non-Hodgkins lymphoma have been surfacing. I find these reports alarming because of their implications for future generations. Clearly the standards for beauty in women have changed over the years and it seems society places more and more emphasis on the outward appearance of its women. I fear that the ever increasing standard for beauty in women may lead more and more women to consider breast implants without being fully aware of the negative repercussions this may have on their health. On one hand we need to educate women about these new risks associated with this cosmetic surgery so they maybe realize what they are actually gambling. On the other hand, I fear that many young women may feel such a large amount of social pressure to perfect their appearance that they may still choose this elective surgery in spite of these new health risks.
