Activists campaign to remove PCBs from New York schools   Leave a comment

Activists from New York Communities for Change (NYCC), Queens Congregations United for Action (QCUA) and New York Lawyers for the Public Interest (NYLPI) joined forces to raise awareness about the slow plan to remove PCBs from light fixtures in New York City public schools. In spite of calls from concerned parents and activists, the Department of Energy continues to procrastinate. There’s was a demonstration on the steps of City Hall on April 19. Also, a special PTA meeting occurred last week for parents to voice their concerns about the PCB contamination last week. Although support is growing, it seems there is still not enough political pressure to force the DOE to respond quickly. We can only hope more people let their voices be heard.
