San Francisco Bay contains high levels of contaminants   Leave a comment

Today new California state guidelines warn the public against consuming shiner perch and sharks caught in the San Fransisco Bay because they contain high levels of contaminants. The shiner perch had high levels of PCBs while the sharks had high levels of mercury. The studies leading to this warning took place over the last 15 years and they revise guidelines released in 1994 which were based on less complete data. One shocking discovery of these studies was that it did not appear that PCB levels had declined over the 15 year span. More information about other warnings and more details about the San Fransisco bay problem may be found online at the News10 website.
